The Time Was 1960: Songs of the Summer

episode date - July 21, 2010

It’s hard for songs to remain relevant for 50 years, which is why so few do. Usually, a song will sound cool for a month or two, maybe a year, then fade away. The good ones last.

This show features a number of classics from the summer of 1960, and all but one are classics. There’s also a pair of audio stories here, covering the lineage of two classic songs.

Here’s a list of songs that we feature;

1) Only the Lonely – Roy Orbison

2) Mule Skinner Blues – Bill Monroe

3) Mule Skinner Blues – Roy Acuff

4) Mule Skinner Blues – The Fendermen

5) All I Could Do Was Cry – Etta James

6) Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini – Brian Hyland

7) Walk Don’t Run – Johnny Smith

8) Walk Don’t Run – Chet Atkins

9) Walk Don’t Run – The Ventures

10) Walking to New Orleans – Fats Domino

11) Mona I Need You Baby – Bo Diddley

12) Cops and Robbers – Bo Diddley

13) That Old Feeling – Frank Sinatra

14) I’m Sorry – Brenda Lee
